Welcome Executive Director Kalia Morrison!
From the Decatur Makers Board of Directors:
Our Executive Director search committee reviewed over 60 applications which had been redacted to remove potentially biasing identifying information (e.g. name, gender, ethnicity, race, birthdate, etc.) to create a list of 7 semi-finalists. We met with each finalist for a structured interview asking each candidate the same questions narrowing this group to 3 finalists who met with staff, community members, and the search committee for further, extended interviews.
We are absolutely thrilled to announce that Kalia Morrison accepted our offer to be the next Executive Director of Decatur Makers. She will start May 25th, and will work closely with our retiring Executive Director Irm Diorio, Makerspace Manager George Breeden, Manager of Youth Programming and Outreach Jennifer Morrison (no relation), Operations Specialist Alyson Luzetsky, and the Board of Directors to work toward a smooth transition and maintain our organization’s amazing trajectory! Kalia previously served as a District Director for the BSA Atlanta Area Council, and also worked with the Boys & Girls club. She has an impressive record of meeting fundraising goals, and volunteer management. Throughout the interview process it was clear that Kalia gets Decatur Makers and will work passionately to carry out our mission. She writes:
I believe the next Executive Director of Decatur Makers will need to understand the importance of growth in the areas of Money, Manpower and Membership. I also believe this person will need to understand how special the people are that make up this unique community and will need to be incredibly relationship oriented. Not only has my professional experience given me the opportunity to be very successful in those key areas, but I believe my life experience has helped me to embody the character and personality needed to be a part of this community and to play a major leadership/influencer role to continue to help the organization thrive.
Please help us extend to Kalia our warmest welcome to the Decatur Makers family as we continue to grow and empower our community of builders, creatives, and learners!
