Decatur Makers Builds Free Desks for Kids Learning From Home
In October 2020, Decatur Makers started building and delivering FREE desks to students across metro-Atlanta attending school at home. Their initial goal of 100 desks became 500 after they received requests for over 1,700 desks. Thanks to individual donations as well as sponsorships by @coferbrothers and @decatureducationfoundation, they raised over $14,000 and were able to build and donate 580 desks.
All of their desks, including the dozen decorated by local Atlanta artists, are in their forever homes as of the end of February. This successful project was due to the almost 30 volunteers who built and delivered desks. A special shoutout goes to Decaturite Tommy Barrow, Decatur Makers Board Member and creative woodworker, who was the heart and soul behind this project.
