Partnering with Beacon Hill Black Alliance: Art for the People
September 2021 UPDATE:
We are so proud to have been community partners with the Beacon Hill Black Alliance for Human Rights and their first Art for the People project! The sculpture by Atlanta-based, Black multidisciplinary artist Ellex Swavoni is inspired by the poem “What Sonia Said” by Sonia Sanchez, a leading figure in the Black Arts Movement. Swavoni’s “Future Ancient” style draws upon the visual language of spiritual traditions across the African diaspora.The unveiling event, covered by the Atlanta Journal & Constitution, was beautiful and inspiring!

We are so proud and honored to be partnering with the Beacon Hill Black Alliance for Human Rights with their “Art for the People” public art project!
We are working together to leverage art as a platform to educate the larger community about systemic racism and colonialism, as well as to share stories about the beauty and strength of indigenous people and people of color. Thanks to the Atlanta Journal and Constitution and Decaturish for their articles and the City of Decatur for their financial support!

The Alliance is also currently running a fundraising campaign to raise $15,000 with a stretch goal of $25,000 by the end of 2020. Your gift would help support the artists, acquire materials, and contribute to making Decatur an anti-racist community.
