Thank you for your interest in joining Decatur Makers. Membership isn’t just access to tools — it’s an investment in a creative, collaborative community. We intentionally keep our individual and family membership fees accessible to help cultivate a diverse and supportive space where everyone can participate and belong.
Every new membership begins with an Orientation Cycle to ensure safe training and small group sizes.
Youth ages 11+ can join under a Student Membership (see Youth Membership Agreement for details), and kids of all ages are welcome as guests.
Now Enrolling Through Orientation Cycles
To keep training safe and group sizes small, we release orientation seats twice per month. Join the Next Orientation Cycle (free, no payment today). When invited, you’ll receive an email with Orientation details and a link to complete your membership application and payment. We typically reach out within about 2–4 weeks.

Please note that all memberships for makers 18+ are contingent upon the satisfactory completion of a national and state level criminal and sex offender background check. We consider a number of factors, so entries on an individual's criminal record do not always automatically preclude them from membership. If you have concerns about the back ground check process, would like to notify us of a name change, or would like to inform us of possible results beforehand, please reach out to info@decaturmakers.org
As part of our commitment to fostering a safe and inclusive community, all new members are required to undergo a background check. We understand that individuals may have varying levels of comfort with this process, and we respect those concerns. However, this practice is essential to ensuring the collective wellbeing of our community.
Please note that all background check information is strictly confidential and is reviewed only by key executive board members and the executive director. These individuals are bound by confidentiality agreements to protect the privacy of our members. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation in maintaining a secure environment for everyone.
