Decatur Makers unveiled our latest invention: a 3D body scanner! Just in time for the 2018 Decatur Arts Festival, the scanner was unveiled as part of Decatur Makers’ area, which included our Space Force game, Giant Jenga, button making, and massive chalk art installation courtesy of Jessi Queen!
Nearly 150 scans were made including the one above of Mary Beth and Willie, who will be wed Saturday, June 2, 2018. They plan on 3D-printing their scan to make a lovely cake topper.
The 3D body scanner was put together by many Decatur Makers, including Bill Sandidge, Michael Fletcher, John Olthoff, Maureen Haley, and many more. You can build your own scanner with an old Xbox Kinect by following these instructions at Make Magazine. Our machine was made possible by a generous donation of a precision threaded rod and rails system from Stuart Bahr.
