Welcome Chris Wilkerson as our new Outreach Manager!

After a job posting at the beginning of March for an Outreach Manager (aka Maker Education Manager), we had 19 applicants for the position! We put the hiring process on-hold as the pandemic unfolded, and intentionally moved ahead earlier this month to build capacity in support of youth, teachers, and parents during this unprecedented time in education.

Our Hiring Committee, made up of Board members and members of our community reviewed the applicants and narrowed the pool to a short list of 5, who were interviewed by the committee. With so many highly-qualified candidates, it was a very difficult decision.

We are very happy to announce that Chris Wilkerson accepted our offer to be the Outreach Manager for Decatur Makers. His first day was August 13 and is working closely with our Executive Director, Irm Diorio, and our Makerspace Manager, George Breeden.

Please join us in welcoming Chris to this new role in our organization!  His passion for teaching is reflected in nearly two decades as a technology-based education professional in the STEAM field working at several Atlanta-area schools as well as at Bricks 4 Kidz and Play-Well TEKnologies. His diverse experience and strong track record fostering child-centered curriculum, student creativity, and community outreach will be a huge asset as we move forward with our Making Spaces program and grow our existing maker-led programs supporting youth and teachers to include virtual making experiences.

With Chris’ help as he joins the Decatur Makers family, we will take a huge step forward in continuing our growth and making a positive impact in the metro-Atlanta community as we get more people of all ages creating and learning by making and problem-solving.
