Congratulations to the Wooden Maven!
Many members may best know Char Miller-King as their instructor at a Decatur Makers Wood Shop 101 class (b.c., before covid) but they will be even more excited to find her featured in Popular Woodworking as their Woodworking in America interview from Georgia.

Here’s the thing about a Char post – there really can’t be enough pictures of her beautiful smile or her beautiful wood craft, and there really can’t be enough links…her Instagram is stunning, her YouTube videos are delightful, her classes are inspiring, her columns are inviting. She’s one our Big Deals and it’s so satisfying to see her gain broader exposure.
The vibrant woodworking community at our maker space is already familiar with Char as educator, woodworker, creative, mother…but she has no side-hustle. Char is all hustle. The article covers how she is building connections between woodworkers of all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels with her teaching, Instagram, blog and YouTube presence. Known as the Wooden Maven on social media, she’s taken a position locally writing for Highland Woodworking’s Woman in Wood column (https://www.highlandwoodworking.com/womeninwoodworking/char-miller-king-women-in-woodworking.html) and is teaching woodshop skills in the schools. Earlier this year, Char was a panelist at WORKBENCHcon and had other speaking engagements lined up pre-covid. In 2019 Decatur Makers was fortunate to have her take part in our Make It Up Improv show and we are proud to have her serve as a member of our Board of Directors.
