After a job posting at the beginning of October to hire a part-time Makerspace Manager for Decatur Makers, we had 28 applicants for the position!
A search committee of 6 people, which included Board members and members of our community, reviewed the applicants and narrowed the pool to a short list of 7, who were interviewed by members of the committee.
We were all truly impressed with the number of interesting and well-qualified candidates. It was not an easy decision. After a careful, thoughtful, and at times difficult deliberation, we are very happy to announce that Kevin Arne has accepted our offer to be the Makerspace Manager for Decatur Makers. He will be working closely with our Executive Director, Irm Diorio.
Please join us in welcoming Kevin to this new role! Although he’s a new hire, Kevin has been a very active volunteer at Decatur Makers since he became a member in May 2017; He’s created and taught many classes including 2D and 3D design, intros to the laser cutter and woodshop, and has helped out with numerous Outreach events exposing kids and teachers to the wonderful world of making and STEAM. With his can-do attitude, passion for making, and wealth and breadth of knowledge, he brings so much to the organization. He has eagerly jumped into a growing list of responsibilities and expect you will see lots of things happening as Kevin and Irm (with the help of so many of our wonderful volunteers!) continue to work toward the goal of creating more value for our larger maker community.
There were many people who spent many hours getting us to this point, including raising funds and making the space an attractive opportunity for so many great applicants. This is a major milestone in the life of our non-profit; Thanks to you all!
With Kevin’s help, we will take another step forward continuing our growth and making a positive impact in so many exciting ways.
