It was all DIY buttons and PIY (Print It Yourself) tshirts at our maker booth at the Decatur Book Festival 2015!
A huge thanks to our good friends at Worldwide Shirts who set up shop with us so people could print their own “official” Festival tshirt… and while they waited for it to cure, folks kept busy making their own Decatur Makers button! Even Bookzilla stopped by for the hands-on fun!
One of our members, Suzanne Elbon, volunteered at the Button booth and had this to say about her experience and our amazing maker kids:
The Makers were in full swing at the Decatur Book Festival. We set up shop at the corner of Clairemont and Ponce de Leon Ave and offered the chance to create a one of a kind button. So many people came by (lots where waiting for their PIY tshirt), cut an image out of a magazine, and used the official button-making-stamper-thing-a-ma-jig to craft their own cool pin-on button.
I had volunteered to help out, but when I got there, a team of kids was managing the booth and helping people make the buttons. I quickly figured out the my job was purely support; The kids had it all under control.
I never got an official count but by my estimation, the pace of production was at least a button a minute. You can do the math. That’s a heck of a lot of buttons.
Being at the festival gave us the chance to show people what we are all about and talk to them about our family-friendly maker space. I was excited to meet fellow makers and learn about the fun, crazy, wild amazing things people are creating.
