We’re happy to announce that we’ll be racing at least one vehicle in the Power Racing Series exhibition at the Atlanta Maker Faire in October. The PRS is a racing event that involves souped up power wheels (think Barbie Jeep w/ a turbo) built on $500 or less budgets. Decatur Makers is registered as a team, but we still have a long way to go.
We need help in several categories. First of all, and most importantly, we need people who are interested in helping assemble / modify cars. This includes skills from welding to electrical to painting. We’ve listed a series of Meetups that you can attend. We also need materials ranging from wheels to headlights. If you have an old riding lawn mower, golf cart, or any electric vehicle with salvageable parts please leave a comment below.
Start your own team
If you’re interested in making and racing your own car, start by reading up on the PRS rules. Teams must consist of a minimum of three people, a driver, mechanic and team volunteer. Please leave a comment below if you’re interested in submitting your own car. We’ll add you to the “official” Decatur Makers team page.
Sponsoring a car
We’re seeking sponsors who are interested in having their logos placed on the car, the team t-shirts and official announcements. If you or your company is interested in helping us out please contact Russell Fair at rfair404 at gmail dot com.
The races will be held at the Atlanta Maker Faire on October 4-5. We’re not 100% sure about the times but there should be at least 3 races, two short races, and one endurance race. We’ll update this post closer to race day once the details are available. Please plan on coming by to support us, there are several ways that you can help us earn fan points on race day.
