What Callum could accomplish in life boggles the mind…
The Decatur sixth grader has already built a computer. He’s created an online gaming community with 100+ players – and has recruited, interviewed and hired kids to help manage it.
Currently, he’s engineering a capture-the-flag-style game for younger children to play without their parents having to worry about exposure to virtual violence.
He’s got mad skills and big ideas.
And he can’t wait to tackle new projects when Decatur Makers opens.
“I know I’d pick up a lot more abilities by working with a 3-D printer and other stuff I don’t have at home,” he says. “But I’m most looking forward to the community of people who can help me if I can’t figure something out.”
The opening of Decatur Makers – the first family-friendly makerspace in metro Atlanta – is now just around the corner. HVAC installation is imminent; a few fine-tuning details remain.
Then …. whoosh! The doors fly open, and Callum and other members will be off to making.
A grand opening often brings some last-minute expenses to cover. So as you’re thinking about last-minute tax deductions for 2014, please think about us.
And think about Callum and other bright and brilliant youth in our community … whose minds will be stretched by a place like Decatur Makers.
Thank you, and Happy New Year!
